Live music lovers rejoice! The du World Music Festival returns to Downtown Burj Khalifa again from 7 to 16 of March, with 14 different concerts that will meet a huge range of musical tastes – think jazz, Latin, Arabic, Filipino to sub-continental and African.
Enjoy performances from some of the most well-known acts from around the world including Gabrielle, The Gipsy Kings, Amr Diab, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Stanley Clarke, Salif Keita, Sarah Geronimo, George Benson, and many more at the spectacular setting of the Burj Park or the Burj Steps.
While many of the events are free, others are ticketed, although du is hosting a range of competitions to not only win free passes, but to also get involved in celebrity meet-and-greets in the lead-up to the event!
Check out du’s Twitter account, @dutweets, for more your chance to win.
Our highlights from the schedule include:
Gipsy Kings (7pm, 8 March, Burj Park)
The flamenco legends’ irresistible blend of Spanish rhythms and pop continues to appeal to audiences of all ages, backgrounds and tastes – it’s no wonder the Gipsy Kings have ruled the genre’s roost for over three decades.
Amr Diab (7pm, 9 March, Burj Park)
The best-selling Arab recording artist of all time, Diab is the contemporary face of Egyptian el-geel pop music. He was awarded the World Music Award for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist four times: 1998, 2002, and 2007, and is considered a living legend by his fans.
George Benson and Gabrielle (7pm, 16 March, Burj Park)
Multi-Grammy winner George Benson is one of the few musicians who have successfully crossed the divide between jazz and popular African-American music. His stunning virtuosity on guitar and universal appeal have made him a household name since the late Seventies.
With hits like Dreams and Out of Reach (we can’t think of Bridget Jones without humming the tune to this song!), Gabrielle is the UK’s premier soul diva and is currently recording her sixth album.
INFO: 7pm onwards, 7 to 16 March, 2012. Downtown Burj Khalifa, www.du.ae. Tickets for some events are free, others cost from Dhs250 to Dhs325, available from www.timeouttickets.com
