Design Days Dubai slated for March
Design Days Dubai, the Middle East and South Asia’s first fair dedicated to collectible and limited edition design, will take place in Dubai next month. Held in partnership with the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) from March 18-21, 2012 in Downtown Dubai, the fair is a forward-thinking concept that presents exclusive and limited edition furniture, objects and works by international designers.
Composites-intensive clock tower inaugurated in Saudi Arabia
The 607m tall Makkah clock tower, the central tower of the Abraj-Al Arab development in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, features more than 40,000-sq-m of advanced composite panels, and material supplied by Gurit. At 607m/1,991 ft tall, the building is the second tallest in the world.

One World Trade Center Tower now World’s most expensive
The politically-charged project has experienced waves of delays and price increases in the decade since the September 11th attacks, almost doubling from its original estimate of $2 billion. Even at these more modest numbers, however, the tower would still have dwarfed other global projects, including the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest tower – at a mere $1.5 billion.
World’s Highest Restaurant has $1.5 Billion view with caviar
At.mosphere restaurant on the 122nd floor of Burj Khalifa, Dubai’s final extravagance before the financial crisis, offers a vista of the boom years. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the sail-shaped Burj al-Arab hotel, Sol Kerzner’s $1.5 billion Atlantis resort jutting out from the tip of the manmade Palm Jumeirah island, and beyond that, a huddle of towers near Dubai Marina.
Krystian to climb Burj Khalifa next year
Polish unicyclist Krystian Herba, the new world record holder of Stairs Climbing By Bicycle, hopes to conquer Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower measuring 828 metres, next year. “After going to Burj Khalifa today, I have this desire to climb it as soon as I get more information about it,” Kyrstian said.
NZ chef at the top of the world
Universal College of Learning-trained Dwayne Cheer is literally the world’s top chef. He is Executive Chef at the exclusive ‘At.mosphere’ restaurant in Dubai, the highest restaurant in the world, 422 metres above the earth on the 122nd floor of the Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world. At At.mosphere, Dwayne’s responsibilities include creating menus and leading a team of 24 chefs.
Dubai Marathon: At a Glance
The start and finish for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2012 will be in Downtown Dubai adjacent to the Burj Khalifa. The starts for the Marathon, 10km Road Race and 3km Fun Run will be from the same start gantry location just up from the Burj Khalifa outside the Pavilion. The finish area for the Marathon, 10km Road Race and 3km Fun Run will be through the same finish gantry location on the opposite side of the road from the start gantry.
Azerbaijan takes on Burj with plan for world’s tallest tower
Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, named the world’s tallest tower following its launch in 2010, has seen a number of developers announce plans to eclipse its 828m height. The most recent contender, the 1,000m, $1.2 billion Kingdom Tower in Jeddah is due to start in the first quarter of 2012. However the new tower in Azerbaijan will, when constructed, be even taller.
Dubai developer Emaar propels DFM higher
Shares on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) rose yesterday, led by Emaar Properties, amid earnings optimism as investors speculated that the region’s largest developer would deliver strong fourth-quarter results.
