BUCHAREST — The self-styled “French Spiderman” on Friday climbed up one of Bucharest’s tallest buildings, the Hotel Intercontinental, as part of a publicity campaign.
Alain Robert, 48, crawled up balcony after balcony of the 22-storey building, using a rope and a harness.
Some two hundred Bucharesters watched from the sidewalk below, cheering and taking pictures.
But he stopped several metres before reaching the top in order to deploy a banner advertising a Romanian retailer.
“It was quite spectacular, but I would have liked to see him go all the way to the top,” a housewife accompanied by her four-year-old daughter, said.
Robert has climbed more than 100 of the world’s tallest buildings, including the 828-metre Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Sears Tower in the US city of Chicago and the 88-storey Jin Mao Building in Shanghai, China.
