Dubai, the City of Towers
Dubai was not built in a day. The city’s modern skyline began to take shape in 2002 when a new wave of development was triggered by the opening of the real estate sector to foreign ownership. The emirate is home to Burj Khalifa, the tallest man-made structure of any kind.
INDEX is named best tall building
The award will be presented at the CTBUH’s 10th annual awards dinner which will held on October 27 at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, US. INDEX now finds itself in the running for the 2011 Best Tall Building Worldwide Award, as the regional win places it among the four nominees for the overall prize. The 2010 prize for Best Tall Building Worldwide was awarded to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
Leeds Met University tower voted ‘world’s best’
It beat off Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, at a ceremony organised by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Broadcasting Place, on Woodhouse Lane, was shortlisted for the award after being voted Europe’s best tall building by the CTBUH in June.
Burj Khalifa officially world’s tallest building
At 828 metres in height, the Burj Khalifa has been officially recognized as the world’s tallest building. In an unsurprising announcement, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) bestowed the ‘tallest’ title after checking detailed documents provided by the building’s developer Emaar.
World Record: Final word awaited
Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) says Burj Khalifa builder Emaar has not shared blueprints in order for the 828-metre Dubai skyscraper to be truly certified as the world’s tallest structure. “No, we haven’t got a blueprint yet, but we’ll probably get one sooner or later,” Jan Klerks, CTBUH spokesman, told XPRESS from CTBUH’s headquarters. “We’ll sure let the world know when we do.”
