Fashion designer Giorgio Armani launched Armani Hotel Dubai at Burj Khalifa yesterday. Last night he flung open the doors of his new gaff to celebrate.
Canapes were nibbled and cocktails were sipped as the UAE’s party people descended on the world’s tallest building to see what Mr Armani had to offer them.
We were told to expect Beyonce and Victoria Beckham, we got, erm, well we’re looking back at the pictures now and we can’t be sure. We’ll have them up for you very soon then you can guess too.
Time Out Dubai’s Deputy Editor, Becky Lucas, was at the bash. Here’s the lowdown, from the lady herself…
It was the most hotly-anticipated opening of the year so far, with rumours of appearances from various A-list stars (Beyoncé, Victoria Beckham and Megan Fox to name but a few). We thought, perhaps, it would have a little of the Atlantis bash about it – with celebs popping up everywhere we turned and maybe even dancing badly.
Instead, the five ‘big-name’ guests intended for the Armani Hotel launch last night were all uninvited at the last minute (although, ahem, Dennis Wise didn’t get the memo) apparently to ensure all attention remained focussed on the venture and the big man himself: Mr Giorgio Armani.
It’s fair to say it was mission accomplished: the Italian’s Arabic-influenced spring collection – sprinkled with moon-shaped handbags, dresses and brooches – met regular applause, the Japanese dinner was light and original (raw Wagyu, anyone?) and the after-party in the bespoke club raged on for hours, complete with a giant screen looping shots of swaying palm trees and Armani’s designs.
The most ludicrous outfit of the evening? A D&G ‘wedding dress’. Oh, yes. And, finally, the man himself?
The 76-year-old posed non-stop for photos with anyone and everyone before parking in the DJ booth until the early hours. Not even the gaggles of models (dancing badly) could take attention away from the man of the hour.
