Finnish elevator manufacturer KONE has unveiled a new hoisting technology that will enable elevators to travel heights of one kilometer – twice the distance than currently possible.

Building the Burj Khalifa was a feat that took five years, but Jordanian bakers catering to Syrian refugees that have flooded the region are reaching three times that height — every day.

A short film posted by China-based Broad Sustainable Building (BSB) on Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat website shows the tower having a garden on the top most floor and open terraces, with the company dubbing the development as ‘One Building, One City, Sky City’.

“We launch the tower in the next six weeks. It will be 111-storey high and will be the second tallest tower on Sheikh Zayed Road after Burj Khalifa,” said Meydan Chairman Saeed Humaid Al Tayer. The tower will be located close to Radisson Royal Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The Burj Khalifa is taller than any other building on Earth, but its observation deck does not make it as World Number One. A list of the world's tallest viewing platforms puts the Burj's At the Top in third place behind the decks on two towers in China.
