A new contemporary art space, The Pavilion Downtown Dubai, is set to open on Thursday February 24. The non-commercial space aims to provide a place to view, discuss and participate in work by local and international artists. The building hosts two gallery spaces. It was formerly a sales office and is situated in Downtown Dubai, opposite the Burj Khalifa.

"I have [seen] on TV the tallest building in Dubai, but nothing can describe the feeling when you [are] under the giant Burj Khalifa or when you see the whole of Dubai from the top," he added. "Dubai has many beautiful places and buildings, but Burj Khalifa was the one I wanted to see."

An estimated 12,000 people turned up for the Dubai Walks held under the auspices of the Dubai Sports Council-organised Dubai Pulse Programme around Burj Khalifa yesterday.

Dubai: British photographer Stu Williamson is "proud" to have won a competition with a shot of Dubai's Burj Khalifa, and to have seen the iconic building being constructed. "It's an iconic building for the world, not only the UAE," he told Gulf News from his Jumeirah Beach Road studio. "Dubai has got some fabulous buildings. We're spoilt for choice, really."

Emaar Malls Group has unveiled a colourful calendar of events and festive discounts for the 16th edition of DSF. Dubai Shopping Festival 2011 will open with a spectacular show at the Burj Khalifa Boulevard and the Dubai Creek Park with fireworks to herald the beginning of 32 days of festivities. Al Rigga, Al Seef, Jumeirah Beach Residence, and the Burj Khalifa Boulevard will host a variety of entertainment events throughout DSF to take the celebration to residents and visitors.

The second edition of the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards were held yesterday at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai. Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, handed out the awards to 18 sports personalities and institutions representing the UAE and the surrounding Arab region.

The fireworks display on New Year's Eve at Burj Khalifa will be the highest in the world and will be guided by satellites, XPRESS can exclusively reveal. The visual extravaganza will be put together by a 120-member team of Prisme International, the company behind the show at the Burj Khalifa launch on January 4.

Dubai: At the stroke of midnight on Friday, some 500,000 spectators had gathered around the world's tallest standing structure, Burj Khalifa, to celebrate the new year with display of fireworks.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates on Thursday on the occasion of the UAE’s National Day.
