Depa, the Dubai-based interiors contractor that worked on the Burj Khalifa, is becoming a favourite among construction stock pickers in the country. While many builders have been hurt by project cancellations, payment delays and reduced profit margins, Depa’s balance sheet looks more solid.

Aside from the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai, the world’s tallest building that houses hotels and shopping destinations, Dubai is planning to build a new skyscraper with the construction of “The Wave Tower.” But this seacraper, coined due to its proposed proximity to the city’s waterfront area, is going to be a lot greener than Burj Khalifa.

Among the fashionistas stepping into interiors are those who have embarked on design projects for hotels, such as Hotel Maison Moschino in Milan, Dubai’s Hotel Armani and most recently here in the UK, Diane Von Furstenberg’s collaboration with Claridge’s.

While one of the first designer hotels — the Palazzo Versace — opened in Australia’s Gold Coast 10 years ago, this May saw the opening of the Armani Hotel at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. While Dubai may be known for its excesses, a lesser known Irish city, Galway, is also celebrating a new addition to their landscape — celebrity hat-maker Philip Treacy’s The G Hotel.

The emirate is famed for a number of things such as the Burj Khalifa, which is the world’s tallest building, and the ‘The World’ which is a manmade archipelago with each mini island a potential home for the super-rich. Many people travel to Dubai for holidays, but there is probably just as much, if not more, coming to do business.

Legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani has become the proud owner of one of the most beautiful Greek islands – Scorpios. Several months ago, Armani opened his first hotel. It is in the highest building in the world – skyscraper Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The world's first hotel under the Armani branding has been opened in Dubai and offers 160 luxury rooms and suites. It is located on the first eight floors as well as the 38th and 39th of the Burj Khalifa – currently the world's tallest building.
