Alain Robert, who is internationally known as “Spider Man” for his courageous climbs to the tops of the world's highest buildings, is planning to climb Turkey's highest building on Tuesday. Robert's name came to public attention when he climbed the world's highest building, Burj Khalifa (860 meters) in Dubai. He will now scale İstanbul's Sapphire.

The tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, rises like an elegant rocket almost a kilometre into the sky. Standing on the observation deck, I feel like Gulliver looking down on a Lilliputian city.

Competition entrants also took part in a survey which polled the more than 10,000 participants on their favourite city, landmark, pastime and moments. The survey revealed that Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, is more popular than the Colosseum in Rome, New York's Chrysler Building and Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

The 160-room hotel opened in April last year next to Dubai Mall and occupies floors ground to eight and levels 38 and 39 of the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa. As Dubai was slowly recovering from its debt crisis, the hotel's opening provided important evidence of renewed investment confidence in the destination.
