Dubai unveils world’s costliest billboard
The jetpack rider is initially hidden within the billboard, then emerges and flies around it for approximately 20-30 seconds, before landing back on the billboard. The makers claim that one month of continuous advertising would run up a cost of US$1.3Bn, which rather begs the question of what else the company could do with $1.3Bn. Thoughts such as 'retire and stop doing very expensive billboards' spring to mind.
Sky City One in China: 104 elevators, living space for 174,000
Broad Group, a construction company in China, has announced it will built the world’s tallest skyscraper in just 90 days. Plus, says Broad Group, its building will be much cheaper to build than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) which is currently the world’s tallest manmade structure at 830 meters (2,723 feet).
Winning artwork to be displayed at Burj Khalifa
The Ara Gallery and At the Top, Burj Khalifa have announced “Art At the Top,” a competition giving one artist the chance to have his or her artwork displayed on a featured wall in At the Top, Burj Khalifa. The competition began on Monday with a call to Emirati artists around the UAE to submit their portfolios. The deadline for portfolio submission is on July 15.
Sky City: China plans world’s tallest building
Zhang said Sky City is expected to consume a fifth of the energy required by a conventional building due to BSB’s unique construction methods, such as quadruple glazing and 15-centimeter-thick exterior walls for thermal insulation.
Eyes in the sky
Tokyo is awash with skyscrapers offering bird's-eye views across the city. All are eclipsed by the Skytree, which not only dominates the city's skyline but is also the world's tallest free-standing tower (at 634 metres, it is almost double the height of the Eiffel Tower, but falls short of the 828 metres recorded by the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai).

Burj hailed as best example of safe high-risers
Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, has been picked by the GCC Civil Defence General Managers as an ideal example for high rise structures in terms of fire protection systems and safety measures taken in emergency cases. The civil defence managers team, which concluded its 23rd meeting in the UAE, agreed to circulate the fire protection system installed in Burj Khalifa to the member states
Tokyo Skytree is world’s second tallest building
The world’s tallest tower and Japan’s biggest new landmark, the Tokyo Skytree, opened to the public last Tuesday. It is only second to the world’s tallest structure, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, which stands 828 metres. The Tokyo Skytree stands at 634m. These tall structures are classified under different categories – buildings or skyscrapers and towers, each required to meet a host of specifications to qualify.
